Beginners Guide to ODIN – Android Flashing Tool

Here is a brief description about ODIN this is only tool to communicate with any Android Device when it is connected to a Computer in Download Mode. ODIN is developed for testing and New Firmwares on Android Device in a easy way. You may have seen all the Firmware update methods are based on ODIN Tool. because nothing can be more easy than this. With help of ODIN you can install or Repair any firmware on your device easily. ODIN allows you to install Official ROM’s as well rooting packages on your Android Device. As per the Un-official news even Samsung Uses this tool to flash the devices at the customer Care. for now this tool is only Available on Windows platform.

What is ODIN
Before using this tool for updating or installing any new Firmware  using this too, it is better to know some brief details about it.

Thanks to the Senior member from Samsung, Who developed this tool to test or to repair the Firmware releases that are roll out everyday. This tool is also used to recover a Bricked variant.

Following file types are supported in ODIN for flashing a Device.

 *.tar
*.tar.md5
*.bin
Ass Like other Applications , ODIN also has different Version. Most latest version is ODIN-3 v3.04 However there are not any major visible changes in different version’s but you will only find a new Visual Interface in the latest versions. We have included a Link of Stable version of ODIN which supports all Android Devices

Here are some of the features and advantages of ODIN which should be in mind before implementing on this tool. Lets see it below

Check Boxes

There are few Check boxes on left hand side of this tool. They all have different functions:

Auto Reboot :After completion of Flashing, It will Reboot the Device Automaticlly.
Re-Partition : This re-partition is similar to the Windows File System, It will re-partition the Integrated file system to the RFS
F . Reset Time: It will reset the flash counter after the flashing of the Firmware.
Option Button Description

PIT: PIT stands for the Partition Information Table. If the PIT Option is checked then you have to browse the *.pit files which comes with a new Firmware

Many Firmware requires the *.pit files. Necessary instruction will updated if the firmwares requires the necessary *.pit files.

 BootLoader : When checked, this option is used to flash the Bootloader of the device.

PDA : This is the main part of the firmware. You can select the Necessary particular files when selected.

Phone :  It the Modem Version

CSC : It stands for the Consumer Software Customization.This is mainly used to identify the region ot Carrier Specific File. it includes some default Settings, like Internet Access point and Network Branded Settings.
